Motivating farmers to implement eco-schemes that have highest impact on grasslands biodiversity conservation by explaining the effects of their nature friendly activities for conservation of high nature value farmlands

The lack of monitoring and evaluation of CAP support effects on biodiversity has been identified as a major barrier to effective governance of public funding and a source of demotivation for farmers.

Our surveys show that farmers want clear feedback on how their activities contribute to biodiversity conservation – specifically, which species and habitats depend on their practices and what additional actions could help improve their conservation status.

To address this, two short videos were developed to motivate farmers to adopt eco-schemes that offer strong benefits for grassland biodiversity but currently attract low participation.

These include:

  • Extensive maintenance of permanent grasslands.

  • Maintenance and improvement of biodiversity and green infrastructure eco-scheme.

Both videos highlight the biodiversity outcomes generated by farmers’ management
