Exploring areas of consensus and friction around its defining principles, and call for action
Agroecology-TRANSECT is a Horizon Europe project co-financed by the European Commission, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
This report explores how agroecology is understood across Europe and identifies areas of agreement and debate among scientists, practitioners and social movement activists. Based on responses from 207 participants across 21 countries, the study finds strong consensus around the importance of biodiversity, farm resilience, reducing agrochemical use and strengthening food sovereignty. However, views differ on the role of new technologies, climate resilience strategies and the extent to which agroecology should challenge existing economic and power structures. The report highlights opportunities to build a stronger, shared vision of agroecology in Europe and provides policy recommendations to support a more sustainable, resilient and equitable food system.
