On March 29 2023, Bertrand Dumont, Agroecology-TRANSECT coordinator, delivered a talk entitled 'How animal science can support the role of animals in delivering benefits to society' at the annual meeting of the British Society of Animal Science. He analysed how contrasting options for sustainable animal production and feed-use deliver a number of benefits to society, and on cropland production, by providing manure. 

The Coccinelle Innovation Hub recently participated in a workshop based around a game, La Grange®, that provided ‘a simple yet not simplistic framework’ for discussion by farmers, local citizens and scientists, and revealed the synergies and trade-offs that occur in livestock farming areas.

Livestock farming often has a negative reputation because of its impact on both the environment and animal welfare. But agroecologically-minded farmers and policy makers are making headway, by creating opportunities for dialogue between themselves and citizens.

Until now, most research relating to animal production based on agroecological principles has been conducted at farm scale only, meaning the potential of understanding its impact at societal and food system level has been underexplored.

[Report] From 2-6 September 2024, X Congresso Internacional de Agroecologia took place in Viseu, Portugal, bringing together people from around the world to explore how agroecology can enable flourishing resilient and sustainable food systems.
